My first day at Take2 Performing Arts School consisted of my 11-year-old self in a pair of shiny leggings (that were very popular in the 2010s), shoes that I soon found out were not suitable for dancing, and a water bottle. I arrived knowing no one, but the warm welcome at the door and the vibrant classes gave me the instant feeling that I’d found a home away from home.

From Student Life to Teaching at Take2

Now, more than a decade later, with many sizes of uniform outgrown, 4 teaching notebooks filled, and friends I’ve made for life, I still have that same feeling of comfort walking through the doors.

After completing my Speech and Drama exams and ageing out of the Performing Arts school, pursuing a teaching diploma was a natural next step. Balancing evening online classes with a university Acting Diploma during the day, I honed the skills I'd developed as a classroom assistant and backstage helper. I delved into teaching techniques and discovered a passion for researching drama methods, enabling me to craft unique lesson plans and games that enhanced the syllabus.

Through the eye of the computer, during lockdowns, I taught students in our little square windows. However, it allowed me to apply everything I'd learned in a virtual setting, maintaining the connection and enthusiasm that defines Take2.

Returning to The Classroom

Coming back into the classroom was a breath of fresh air as I was able to put everything I’d learnt into in-person practice. Sitting at the top of the Take2 classroom was a surreal adjustment, but I soon felt as though I had been doing it my whole life.

Whilst my bottle of water has been joined by a cup of coffee, I’m still the same as when I first joined: Excited, passionate and enthusiastically nodding along to all the numbers from my new position side stage.

Take The Leap!

If you’re a young student thinking about joining Take2 Performing Arts School, my advice is simple: take the leap! Whether it’s Musical Theatre, Speech and Drama, or Dance, every class offers a welcoming space to grow, express yourself, and build confidence.

At Take2, you get to learn some amazing skills and become part of a community where lifelong friendships are made! It all starts with that first class—and trust me, you’ll be glad you stepped through the door.
